10th to the 1st Ultramarian Company Vs. Abbadon Assault Force Delomes

A battle has yet to occur with as much importance and tactic than the one that occurred last night. The town had all been assembled for graduation day. The scouts, all but the squad assigned to the director of ceremonies Tellion, resplendent in their power armor. Shining with the dark blue trimmed in gold. Graduation day, indeed. The ranks were laid out at that dawn of war. But, then came the dark crusade. Then came Abbadon, and that fiend Delomes. But. They would not find us wanting.

Dawn of War Eternal War Mission 1 The Crusade. 3 objectives, 2 in Ultramarine deployment.

The battle field had a large amount of armor 12 buildings, but a simple look at the building table shows that being inside of a building is almost suicide. What with a 7 result. And that happened. And just annihilated the havoc squad. But. This is the marine deployment.

It was difficult but not by any means impossible to deploy 102 Ultramarines and an Inquisitor within my deployment. Chaos chose to hide a much smaller footprint of mechanized troops behind the cover of the tallest building, and push in my far flank, away from the bikes. The two part building would seem like a prime vantage for an enterprising havoc squad, until you consider that it is also a huge target. Tactical doctrine was used as follows:
Tactical
Tactical
Devastator
Assault

Tactical doctrine, even when applied to a devastator squad, is bolter drill, but better. It meant that my 3 rocket tacticals rerolled as well as the lascannons, which proved crucial to ultimately collapsing the building, and offering first blood in a first turn that chaos

The maulerfiend is always something I try to avoid, and it, in turn, wiped out a squad that had been taking shelter in a building with a 7 result. The air tanks banishment was nice to be able to ding the chaos invulnurable save down to a 6+ Below, the air power is a gentle ying and yang to a holistic battle ground.

Marneus did relatively little in the battle, except to make everyone able to ignore morale tests. The ability to fail a test and later regroup saved at least two lives. Which is a great deal, when you consider the training wasted. Below, batman chaos Lord Delomes leads his raptor squad into glorious melee.

The helldrake, likewise, is a vexing foe. Able to lay flame unto huge swaths of blue men.

Eventually the air creature landed, and was able to be killed with grenades. A better choice may have been to retreat to ongoing reserve, as the air tank had done.

Here, Abbadon stands alone against about 17 marines. He can only kill, at most, 5 at a time. Which is not enough to survive. I respect his refusal to retreat to the relative safety of the Land Raider and give Slay The Warlord as a hard-fought gift.

The chosen attempt a last ditch effort to deny the crash site objective that was generated as aerotech cargo.

Abaddon continues his assault, but a turn 6 would not see him survive.

The chosen disembarks and fires on the scouts, but Tellion manages to hold his objective.

The air tank seeks to deny the chaos objective, but Objective Secured maintains it. We are unwilling to disembark the ladies, and risk being gunned down in a turn 7.

The chosen cannot assault, and so the scouts survive.

Marneus, Tigerious, and Coteaz appraise the victorious battlefield.

Final score; Ultramarine Omega 10 Chaos Force Abbadon 3

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only fun.

June Warhammering.

From the grim darkness of the far future, and here in sunless Karuvas XIII, aloha. Wanted to post some pictures of the warhammers that have been falling in the month of June. I had a large amount of time to consider lists for the June 28th ACG Tournament, but not as much time to appraise myself of the rules. Without the time to battle test my force I was worried. Also, in the absence of being able to play, theoretical armies became more and more esoteric.

It was announced that there would only be battle forged lists, and this relieved me, and I resolved to field Grey Knights, at least, and something else probably.

In the end, the Blood Angels won. They are so very fast. And now, everything scores. Which was good before, and even better now. Below are the Blood Angels surivvors, including Mephiston, Lord of Death, with a lone remaining wound.

I was able to play a game against Brian's marines, and it was the first time playing tactical whatever, and I did not understand the rules completely, and lost. So. Despite that, I am fairly certain a turn 6 or 7 would have seen me destroy everything that remained.

Here, Draigo assaults the terminator librarian.

This is Brian's actual 2,000 for the tournament.

This is my game 1 hammer and anvil deployment of my ultimate list.

Against so many bugs.

And Emperors Children?
And it was kind of a mess...

And in the end it was a tactical draw and I got a single battle point over Jerry.

My second game was against Tori fielding Deathwing Dark Angels. This is just before I killed Belial in the face to death by combining Khan and Draigo into the same squad. Furious Charge Hit and run Draigo? Yes please.

This is towards the end, as the remainder of my force considers attempting to eliminate the last Deathwing squad, and elects instead to win the game without danger.

This is my only picture of game 3 against Brian. I had never fought a Wraithknight before. I also forgot that D-Sythes are template weapons, and so this picture is titled the last charge of the silver bike squad. Because their noble sacrifice ended swiftly the following turn, and Gold squad got frightened and drove off the board. I considered quitting at that point. Top of 2 and 510 points just drove off the board. 1/4 of my force removed, uncontested. But. I played it out, and eventually won. In the end I took 3rd, and was only 6 battle points away from tying for first. Had game one been a victory, things would have been much different. With my winnings swag, I got half a box of paladin, and those paladin are going to beat everyone's asses, with a list I will close with. One love. UM

Iron Hands VS Blood Angels 2000 Points.

Hello all. We are really excited to be sharing this battle report, as it is the first game played in the house. Lived here over a year. Have not been able to play 40K. So, it was with great anticipation and longing that finally a Blood Angels force arrived to challenge the perpetual list manufacturing that occurs in the absence of regular games. We had talked about doing 1750, in preparation for the Con Of The North, but decided instead on 2000, as it is our preferred point total. I was prepared for either contingency, but the additional 250 points allowed me to field another terminator squad. Which makes an already mean list much meaner. The concept behind my force, even as Ultramarines are painted over to Iron Hands, is the revitalization of the marine armor list. I am not a fan of Hull Points. I think they sabotage an elegant and random element to vehicles that makes tactical games of armored forces a delight to play. Because no one brings Land Raiders anymore. And certainly not four. But.

So. Here are a whole bunch of pictures.

This is my force. It is kind of painted for crap. I'll cop to it. It's a WIP.

This is my brother's Castle Ragnar, which was retired from this game after much debate. It was in charge of holding the mysterious objective dice.
From farther back, you can see that Skeletor is overseeing the game.

 The Blood Angels force.

The board is irregular, in that it is meant to be irregular.

There is a crash site which is 4+ battle field wreckage, a cemetery center, providing ruin cover, and 3 mysterious forests. Shrouded in mystery.
The upper courtyard is surrounded by ruins, but is itself not dangerous within.

The beacon is the location of table center.
 Crash site.
Game type is Big Guns Never Tire, which is fantastic. 3 objectives, all women. It's a fight over girls, as it always is. Mephiston's girlfriend is in the cemetery, and it is this girl the Iron Hands crave to hang out with the most. Vanguard deployment, BA win roll off, but allow SM to deploy first.
Turn 1 was all jockeying for position and being to far away and poping smoke. Turn 1 drop pod assault with Dreadnought Fractus does not wipe out the scouts, because they are in Iron Bark forest.

The Raider line always wants to move at least 6, get a lascannon shot off clean with some accessorized heavy bolters if practical, and then machine spirit the other lascannon at either the same target, or something farther.
The Blood Angels took the courtyard, as it is an incredibly defensible position, but the choke point of the ramp makes getting forces down field difficult.

The Librarian, who has Mechanicus Abjurum or whatever and Psychic Shriek eliminates the robot and the pod, and that is all that this 350 points does this game.
 Krak kills. Fists kill faster.
 The ramp.
Grandma Ball making her way down the ramp while Death Company consistently fails to move quickly from the blast crater left from their lascannoned rhino.
 But man, they are pretty.
Those two little speeders try to pop some landraider and suck up an entire round of fire only to miss the one melta shot that could have paid off. As it was, hammer terminators who initially deployed to contend with Mephiston hammers it to death.
 Then hammers Mephiston to death.
Death company just can't get down the ramp, but their ranks are bolstered by a terminator doctor and the wandering monk. There are actually three doctors and a priest in this squad.
 The jet pack troops descend.
The scouts at the gate, reverse angle.

 The larger view down field.
Everything is set to hold the middle objective.

It is to the Blood Angels to close the distance, but, the Master of the Forge, the lone occupant of the raider crusader, exploded with melta pistol fire, stands as a bulwark against their victory.

The snipers hold their objective, unable to assist with fire.
Death Company is pretty, but just too slow.
Master of the Forge Meineke Spareparts makes all of his 2+ saves against a crippling series of chainsword blows.
Scary Ghost dad looks on, holding the rear objective with the diminished scout squad as the game ends, turn 5. Iron Hands 8 Blood Angels 3.
 These were my only casualties.

I didn't get a shot of the BA casualties, but they were also pretty light. I feel like the Iron Hands may be the only way to play Space Marine armor in 6th ed. But this is all just opinion and pictures. Thanks, from Karuvas XIII!
